Leaves: Mainly basal, or both on the stem and basal. Basal leaves with long petioles palmately compound, leaflets entire, flat or folded, green, smooth on top, hairy underneath.

Native: Native to the Intermountain West

Showy lupine has the ability to fix nitrogen, which is important for nutrient-poor soils. It is striking when in bloom, with long flowering stems covered with lovely blue blossoms which fade into dormancy after setting seed.
